Yesterday we came together for another in the Open Space Explore series, this time at the Red Rocks Wilderness. As is always the case, our community came together to deliver an exceptional experience for all the riders that came out - special thanks to the Trail Angels for staffing a good portion of the team this time.
We were blessed with a bit of morning fog to start the day, and to keep the summer temps lower. Everyone gathered for a few words before heading out for either the guided ride or to venture on their own on the suggested directional route provided by our own volunteer trail docents.
A large part of the group took us up with that guided "extra credit" on the Shoestring loop, they later joined the rest of the group on the RR (Red Rocks!) Trails. Climbing up RR1, down RR3, back up RR2 over to RR4 and the namesake canyon, then down RR5 - and sometimes even for another lap!
This park is the biggest yet of the recent openings, with 1500 acres and around 13 miles of trails, most of which are single track. There is elevation, oak forests, views and lots of flora and fauna for all to enjoy.
We do the Open Space Explore events to help share these beautiful lands with our ridership, and to show that responsible recreationists can be part of the resource base to increase appropriate access. We sincerely hope all will have the opportunity to enjoy these trails like the select few did this weekend.
Most of all, we want to express thank you to every volunteer that helped make this event another success - You truly Rock!
