Laguna Beach Modular Pump Track

Updated: 2 days ago

In April of 2025 we opened the first Orange County, CA pump track in San Clemente - we all know how awesome a success it has been. Leading up to, and since then, we've been continuing the march to build bike facilities in the county.

Why is Orange County Mountain Bike Association focused on a pump track? Simply put, we all started our passion riding dirt lots, street jumps and the like. And let's be honest, it's tough to find that opportunity today. Bike facilities provide a safe and sanctioned place to discover the joy of bikes, develop your bike/body skill, and to come together as a community. Most of all it's a natural onboarding to mountain biking.

A bit of the plan and the progress.

Since San Clemente opened, Buena Park has contracted a pump track and will be building this fall. We're keeping our fingers crossed Aliso Viejo will begin soon after. OC Parks has committed they will start the Craig Park Bike Facility at Fullerton in 2027. Huntington, Orange, and Irvine all have identified locations as well. The movement is on, recreational facilities for bike will be built all around Orange County by the cities that now recognize they are just as important as "stick and ball" sports amenities.

Now, the Laguna Beach story.

In July of last year their City Council approved "unanimously" to study the feasibility of our proposal to place a track in or North of the Moulton Meadows park. Unfortunately, we met with resistance, first from the "greenbelt" agencies and then from a vocal contingent of the neighbors - this hit a peak in a tough public meeting in January.

Despite that, we made it to the City Work Plan for the year, albeit roughly 3/4 of the way down their very long list. So where are we now?

The City decided to participate in the American Ramp Company modular pump track "tour". Today we install the "triple threat" track at the CRC and it will open for the public to experience for the next couple weeks. This is a proof of concept, essentially validating what we say is high citizen interest (there are 34k views on our video alone) and shutting down the misconceptions from naysayers. This is a step in the process toward establishing a more significant and permanent facility, perhaps even including finishing the skate dream in this village as well.
