Trail Trained Team

This past weekend we were able to participate in the Trabuco Ranger District/Cleveland National Forest (USFS-USDA) Volunteer Service Agreement training. This marks the latest in a long list of qualifications our team has pursued to work within the land manager parameters and to give back on the trails we all love.

At present the OCMTBA leadership includes OC Parks Long Term Volunteers (LTV), these are members that are certified to perform and in some cases lead trail work in...well, OC Parks. A good number of members also have been through the Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) Trail Guide program and are earning their hours toward becoming Trail Docents. This qualifies the riders to supported MTB activities in the managed access OC Parks on the Irvine Open Space.  We've also gone through the process to qualify as California State Parks Trail Assistance Volunteers (TAV), and we have been leading lead trail maintenance projects and serving as MTB patrols in the park.

And it get's even better. Your MTB family is getting trail teamed too. A number of OC trail orgs and social ride groups joined the USFS session. You had legacy Cleveland protectors like the Warriors of Santa Anas and So Cal Trail Alliance along with newcomers like Shimano MTB and OCMB, all shouldering together on the trail maintenance agenda. And looking back over last year, over two dozen of you joined the IRC Trail Guide training, marking a material increase in the potential MTB leads population. And so many have and continue to participate with us in OC Parks, Laguna Canyon Foundation and CA State Park trail work days.

It's clear that our community is one that understands the "give back" purposes of volunteering. MTB riders in OC "put their money where there mouth is" by driving a material portion of the various volunteer projects and groups across our many systems. Making the decision to be a part of the solution, is something "only you" can do. The OCMTBA management has, and we are stoked that so many our community also make that choice.

Thanks for being awesome examples in trail stewardship, and becoming part of the trail trained team!
