Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

This weekend we honored IMBA's TKMBD by supporting RideRx with a special day dedicated to our next generation of riders. 50+ youngsters registered for the opportunity to hang out at the beautiful O'Neill Regional Park, to learn and to develop their riding skills together. It was a blast!

The day started with bike and helmet inspections followed by some guiding words from Coach Donny. We talked about how important the participants were as the next generation of our Association, how we focused a lot of our work on bike facilities for them, and how we were all going to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Next up, Coach Todd demonstrated some basics on body position, pedal balance and turning. And then we got to work, our large group of great riders starting on the simple stuff and progressing through the day until they were riding the features - skinnies, teeters, jumps - all kinds of fun stuff!

Riding makes for appetites, and Chef Manuel with his dad volunteer for the day, Parker, set up lunch. Everyone enjoyed burgers, hot dogs, chips and you guessed it, more drinks! Thank you to our cooks for working a grill on a very warm day.

Bike events always have awards, so guess what was next?! That's right, our newly trained and happily fed crew was recognized for their efforts with medals for the day. And we had a super fun opportunity drawing with some really cool winners receiving helmets, gloves, grips and tShirts to commemorate the day.

Special thanks to Coach Donny and Coach Todd, to Heidi for doing registrations, to Chef Manny and all the rest of the volunteers that make awesome events like this happen. Thank you to the parents that made the time to bring their kids, to help share the passion we all have for bikes. And most of all, Thanks to the amazing young riders for just being cool cats on two wheels - we'll look forward to seeing you on the trails soon!
